The event to launch SurKshetra was a star studded one with all the celebrities associated with it present there. Himesh Reshammiya, the face of the Indian contestants, was the first to take the stage. He was in a patriotic mood, with frequent chats of 'Jai Mata Di' and 'Jai Hindustan'. He certainly succeeded in rousing the audience's mood.
Himesh Reshammiya, in a show of sportsman spirit, greeted his rival captain Atif Aslam on the stage. The two shook hands, and proceed to talk about the abundance of musical talent in both the neighbouring countries.
Atif Aslam, dressed to the nines was his own charming self at the event. He elicited a great response from the audience, especially the female members. He stressed the fact that this was not a musical war between the two countries but rather a way to build bridges between them. You might have a bright career in diplomacy Atif!
If she was worried about the reactions of the MNS to her participation in SurKshetra, Asha Bhosle did not let it show. She was her usual sunny self, talking about the experience of judging the show with Abida Parveen and Runa Laila. Her mimicry had everybody in splits, and she also spoke in Marathi for good measure.
The formidable Abida Parveen made an appearance at the event, and was her own calm self throughout. Asha Bhosle, with her characteristic wit, managed to elicit a few giggles and blushes from Abida. But the reticent Abida chose to answer in couplets, rather than in prose.
The ever gracious Runa Laila was also present with the other two jury members. She testified that she was very thankful to SurKshetra for giving her such a great friend, Asha Bhosle, who she became very close to in a very short period of time. We were a little disappointed that she didn't sing though.
To cure any cold vibes between Himesh and Atif, we had the very hot Ayesha Takia in their midst. Ayesha was all smiles at the launch of her first TV outing, and was visibly excited about it. She said," After the initial nervousness, I could not wait to go to the sets and shoot for SurKshetra. It was a great experience." We can't wait to see you in action!
The brains behind SurKshetra, Gajendra Singh of Saaibaba Telefilms, the CEO of Colors Raj Nayak, Director of Sahara One Boney Kapoor and the Assistant Director of Sahara One Suresh Mishra were visibly proud that their show had generated such interest. After all, they have pulled off the feat of a show being simulcast in India and Pakistan for the first time.
One for the camera! The entire team behind SurKshetra puts up a united front as they pose for the shutterbugs. We say this a teaser of what to expect in SurKshetra. This picture has the talents of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh all in one. A frame worthy picture, if there ever was one!
